Fulfillment.com Community Partnerships

Savannah, GA is the 4th largest port in the U.S., with logistics providers playing a crucial role in our local economy. The Savannah Chatham County School System has career paths mapped to specific schools, so from elementary school through high school, students have the opportunity to receive in-depth exposure to a variety of courses preparing them for college as well as the workforce, including the maritime industry.

The Maritime Logistics Education Taskforce (MLET) was founded as a partnership among various maritime groups with the mission to “reach, educate, and grow the current and future workforce of the logistics and maritime industry in Savannah and surrounding coastal areas.” VP of Human Resources for Fulfillment.com (FDC), Heather Alkire, is one of the original MLET members, who together came up with the idea of creating a program to link businesses and schools. The ability to have a discernible impact on the lives and potential career paths of area students’ lives developed into the MLET partner groups creating an internship program, whereby students gain hands-on experience over 10-weeks, logging more than 200 hours at 15 different companies. FDC is one such company, and for the second year in a row, we welcomed two area high school student interns into our facility.

Julio Garcia, Fulfillment Operations Director for FDC, was quick to praise the interns: “They were great kids with which to work. They were punctual, arrived ready to work, and quickly caught on to any new task assigned to them. In fact, they turned down other summer job opportunities to stay on with FDC before they headed off to college!”

Fulfillment.com is proud to be a member of MLET and a contributor to the intern program. Making worldwide fulfillment easy is what we do, but the people who make up our company put the power behind those words.
